BASEBALL: Mission Valley Mariners earn walk-off win
The Daily Inter Lake | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 8 years, 7 months AGO
POLSON — Walter Wood and Bransen Krebs homered, and Tyler Kelsch doubled and scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Mission Valley Mariners beat the Bitterroot Red Sox 4-3 in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday night.
The Red Sox won the second game 13-1.
Bitterroot took a 2-1 lead in game one off of starter Micah McClure before Mission Valley’s offense used the longball to pull in front. Krebs hit a solo home run to lead off the fourth and Wood left the yard in the fifth to make it 3-2 until Bitterroot re-tied the game in the top of the seventh.
Kelsch got the winning rally started with a double to lead off the eighth and went to third on a bunt. After Kade Schutzmann was intentionally walked, Jacob Harrod hit a ground ball that brought home the winning run.
McClure went the distance in the extra-inning contest to earn the win. He allowed just five hits and one walk, and only one of the three runs he allowed was earned.
The nightcap was all Bitterroot, with the Red Sox scoring seven times in the third inning to break things open. The Mariners notched only two hits off Ladd Grenfell in the loss.
