Berniece 'B' Palmer, 90

Berniece “B” Palmer was born June 27, 1925, to George K. and Jesse J. (Hyde) Albiston of Murray, Utah. “B,” a resident of Hayden, passed away at the Hospice House of North Idaho in Coeur d’Alene on June 18, 2016.

She and the love of her life, “Red” Palmer, grew up together in the Conda & Soda Springs, Idaho, area. They were married May 27, 1943, in Paris, Idaho. She, Red and Max moved to the Coeur d’Alene area in 1947. She raised three children of her own — Max, Jean and Jan — but was considered “mom” by untold numbers.

She was one of the original “Rosie the Riveters” during World War II, while waiting for dad to return home from that war. In the Coeur d’Alene area, she worked at Modern Drug Store and the Coeur d’Alene Tree Nursery. During summers and after the kids were grown, she followed dad to logging camps, road construction and power-line sites, living in tents, campers and trailers. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended the Coeur d’Alene, Hayden and Timberlake Wards.

For five years prior to “B” going into hospice care, she was invited into Jean’s and Roger’s home in Athol where she was lovingly and meticulously cared for. “B” was very content there and for this, all the family is forever grateful.

“B” was preceded in death by her husband, Red. She is survived by her sister, Joy Mabbott of Boise; son Max (Sheri) Palmer of Hayden and their three boys, Toby McCasslin, Lester Palmer and Kelsey Palmer; daughter Jean (Roger) Thorne of Athol and her children, James A. Thorne and Kimberly Thorne Eadie; daughter Jan (Don) Yager of Rathdrum, Idaho, and her three step-children, John Yager, Ron Yager and Jennifer Lawson. She is also survived by lots of great, great-great and great-great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016, at Pinegrove Cemetery in Rathdrum. There will be a reception to follow at the LDS Church on Meyer Road.
