GUNS: Same old box

I want to thank John Tappero of Spirit Lake for his “Opinion” letter in the June 17 paper, titled “Shooting: Not worst ever.” His reminder of an ignored part of history about the slaughter of more than 300 Sioux men and mostly women and children at Wounded Knee in 1890 by our own government has all but been forgotten. We don’t hear much about Homeland Security investigating the terrorist two different times yet he slipped through the system and murdered these innocent people in Orlando. No, we hear right from the get go from Obama on down by the agenda driven movement that the answer is even more “GUN CONTROL!”

Think about three things; (1) Illinois has more gun control laws then most any states in America and also one of the highest murder rates in America. (2) If just a few people were armed during the Orlando massacre; could some lives been saved during the hours long murder spree? (3) They confiscated all the guns from the Sioux Indians at Wounded Knee before they slaughtered them over a misunderstanding; maybe if the Sioux were still armed the government would have talked instead of shooting.

One last thought; they say we are a nation of laws; but reality is at best laws only keep honest people honest. If they worked for the dishonest our prisons wouldn’t be so full and there wouldn’t be so many victims; you can’t control evil. It’s time to think out of the “GUN CONTROL BOX.” Thanks again John.
