LEGION BASEBALL: Prairie sweeps, Northern Lakes rolls

POST FALLS — Jerrett Plunkett finished the day 5 for 7 with three RBIs and three runs scored, helping lead the Prairie Cardinals to an 8-5 and 6-5 sweep of the Missoula Prospects in nonleague American Legion baseball play on Wednesday at Post Falls High.
“I was super happy with the way our guys played,” Prairie coach Brian Fowler said. “We were focused for all 14 innings, and were very patient at the plate.”
In the second game, Prairie’s Preston Benson was hit by a pitch, allowing Matt Fleming to score the walk-off run.
Prairie (5-14) plays the Columbia Basin River Bandits in a doubleheader on Monday in Moses Lake starting at 5 p.m.

Jared McDaniel, J.J. Mackesy and Joe Strietzel had two RBIs each for Northern Lakes (6-5), which competes in the Outlaw Shootout in Kennewick starting today.
