Piano students shine in competition

MOSES LAKE — Elisabeth Barlow, first place winner of a local piano competition, was chosen by Yelena Balabanova. The competition held prior piano adjudications in March. Elisabeth Barlow will represent Moses Lake at the Washington State Music Teachers’ Association conference, June 21-24. She will perform “August” from “The Seasons” by Tchaikovsky in the Honors Recital at Whitman College in Walla Walla. Elisabeth, 17, is dual-enrolled at MLHS and BBCC. She is involved in Key Club and Phi Theta Kappa National Honors Society and also is the winner of the Distinguished Young Woman Competition in Moses Lake.

Eric Shaporda, 14, and Zoryana Moskvich, 15, students of Marina Munter, took second place in the competition in March. They performed the piano duet “Waltz” from “Masquerade” by Khachaturian.

Taylor Yamane, student of Preta Laughlin and Hannah Welch, student of Harriet West received Honorable Mention. Taylor, 18, performed “June” from “The Seasons” by Tchaikovsky. Hannah, 17, performed Sonata No.7, first movement by Mozart.
