Since he was 6 years old, Timothy Blaski has been refining his bowling form.
His dad was a pro bowler and coached him in the art of bowling, igniting Timothy's passion for the sport.
"From the start, he taught me everything that I need to know for the basics of bowling," Timothy, 15, said on Wednesday.
The past few years Timothy came in second and third in the United States Bowling Congress Idaho State Pepsi Youth Championships, but sadly, his dad passed away before he was able to see him come in first, which he did this year.
"He would be very proud of me right now," Timothy said.
The incoming Lake City High School sophomore recently earned first place in the U15 boys division of the championships in Nampa. He will be advancing to the Junior Gold National Championships July 16-23 in Indianapolis and carrying with him his family's bowling legacy.
"What I like about bowling is the challenge of it and how the technique goes into it," Timothy said. "I'm not really a straight bowler. I like to rev the ball and turn it."
To get to Indianapolis, Timothy needs $3,000 to cover travel, food and airfare and to pay for the cost of bringing six 14-pound bowling balls onto the plane.
"I am just praying for a miracle to raise enough money to get my son to the nationals and for his father in heaven to see just what a wonderful bowler he has become," said Timothy's mom, Christiana.
A bowling party fundraiser for Timothy will be held at River City Lanes, 965 W. Seltice Way in Post Falls, from 2-4 p.m. Sunday. The event will feature 50-50 raffles, door prizes and a first place team prize. Registration is $15 per person and all proceeds will help send Timothy to the Junior Gold Championships.
A bowling ball raffle for Timothy is also taking place at Sunset Bowling Center, 202 W. Sunset Ave, Coeur d'Alene. The raffle ends July 1.
