Timberlake students win Northwest Student Emmys

Students from Timberlake High School in Spirit Lake recently brought home Northwest Student Emmy Awards in four different categories.
High school students from Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Montana and Alaska compete for High School Student Emmy Awards.
Randy Duclos was nominated in News: General Assignment-Serious, for his story, “The Reality of Division 1 Athletics.” In this story, Duclos explains how difficult it is to earn a Division 1 athletic scholarship and highlighted one Timberlake athlete who was not able to achieve his dream of playing Division 1 football.
In the same category, Callen Logue and Mark Schell were nominated for their story, “Special Education.” In this story, the challenges and opportunities of a special education student are examined from the point of view of a Lakeland School District elementary student.
Kaylie Foote was nominated in the News: General Assignment-Light category for her story, “Twin Sisters, Never Run Alone.” This story shows the amazing journey of twin sisters that love to run cross country. The season is unexpectedly cut short for one of the girls, but the future still looks bright for these twins.
Colleen Cronnelly and Gwen Sincerbeaux were nominated in the Sports category for their story, “Hooligans Hoops and Heart.” Three star players on Timberlake’s state champion basketball team recall their amazing journey and lifelong memories.
Rachel Peterson and Kaylie Foote were nominated in the Public Affairs/Community category for their story, “Collapsing.” The dangers of drug abuse and suicide are shown in dramatic fashion in this eye-opening public service announcement.
The awards were presented in Seattle on June 4 by The Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

All the students are part of the video production and broadcast journalism class at Timberlake. The class, nicknamed Tiger TV after the school’s mascot, broadcasts the day’s announcements live each morning. This is the third consecutive year Timberlake students have been nominated for Emmy awards. Tiger TV students also compete in the Broadcast News Team event sponsored by Business Professionals of America.
The winners are automatically placed in the national Emmy competition. National winners will be recognized at the televised Emmy awards broadcast in Los Angeles.
