A Spokane man was arrested Wednesday by Kootenai County Sheriff's Office deputies when a routine traffic stop allegedly yielded much more than a moving violation.
Daniel Lewis, 33, faces two felony and four misdemeanor charges after deputies reportedly discovered an illegal firearm, heroin, marijuana, and paraphernalia in his vehicle Wednesday night. According to a sheriff's office press release, Lewis was initially pulled over while driving erratically westbound on Interstate 90 near the state line.
"Once the deputy stopped the car, he found the driver of the car acting very nervously," the press release states. It adds that, after identifying Lewis, the deputy learned the Spokane man was driving on a suspended driver's license and on felony probation stemming from a 2013 robbery conviction.
Lewis was arrested for driving with a suspended license, the release states. While law enforcement officers were impounding Lewis' vehicle, they discovered, according to the release, a 9mm handgun next to the driver's seat.
The release adds the deputy also found marijuana, heroin and drug paraphernalia Lewis had allegedly attempted to conceal.
Lewis was booked into the Kootenai County jail and will be charged at his first appearance with: driving on a suspended license, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of drug paraphernalia, attempting to conceal and/or destroy evidence, possession of heroin and possession of marijuana.
Lewis is being held without bail.
