Whitefish Mountain Resort is continuing an extensive remodel of its Summit House this summer as the resort makes more than $1 million in winter and summer improvements.
A second phase of remodeling Summit House began this spring.
It includes enlarging the kitchen and food court area (which will include a new layout improving customer flow), expanded food stations, new tile work and additional equipment. Interior design elements added to the Summit House during the first phase on the mezzanine level will continue on the main floor with new light fixtures, cabinetry and steel wainscoting.
During construction this summer, there will be limited access to the Summit House. The project is expected to be finished in time for the 2016-17 winter season.
Summit House will be open to guests this summer; however, the café will be closed. Beverage service along with limited food service will be available at the Summit House Bar. The Summit Nature Center, Summit Gifts and restrooms also will remain open.
The Whitefish Bike Park at the resort has been expanded for the second time in four years.
Over the past several summers Whitefish Mountain Resort has seen tremendous growth in use of its bike park. The previous major expansion in the summer 2013 added five new expert trails, including the Kashmir Trail, which was named a model “Flow Trail” in 2014 by the International Mountain Biking Association.
The recent expansion added three new downhill trails designated as beginner/intermediate or intermediate. The new trails will provide riders new to downhill mountain biking an area in which to develop the skills required to progress in the bike park. Additionally, the resort added custom-built bike carriers to the Bad Rock chairlift to access the three new trails plus two expert trails creating the new the “Bad Rock Zone.”
The resort also added a new mountain bike brand to its fleet of rental bikes. Norco Bicycles’ downhill bikes, Aurum Alloy, are available for rent at Village Rentals. Also new this summer, the resort will offer “Learn to Bike Downhill” lessons beginning July 1.
Other planned upgrades and improvements for this winter include an additional grooming cat, new season lockers in the lower level of the Ed & Mully’s building, widening Gray Wolf Road and improving skier/snowboarder access to the Flower Point chairlift from the Goat Haunt run.
