Moses Lake Walleyes earn split with Eastmont

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake ended a six-game skid in league play, splitting with Eastmont at home.
A four-run third inning powered the Walleyes to a win in the opener 5-2. Eastmont sprayed 14 hits in Game 2 and won 11-3.
Blake Pugh and Colton Minoletti led the way for Moses Lake in Game 1. Minoletti, one of two upperclassmen on the team, drove in two runs. Pugh added a pair of his own RBIs. Zachary Valdez led the team with two hits.
Moses Lake trailed 1-0 after the first inning before scoring five unanswered runs.
Blake Sidwell pitched six innings, earning the win; Pugh notched the save.
Eastmont scored seven runs in the second inning of Game 2 and cruised. Moses Lake cut into the deficit with three runs in the fourth inning, however, Eastmont was able to extend its lead with a run in the sixth and three in the seventh.
Thomas Murphy drove in four runs for the Strikers. Also, Luke Schmidt and Jared Garland had two RBI each.
Valdez pitched five innings and had six strikeouts.
Moses Lake heads to East Wenatchee today for another pair against the Strikers.
Two area players make WSBCA All-State Teams
Two Columbia Basin players were named to the Washington State Baseball Coaches Association All-State Teams for their respective classifications.
Othello’s Alix Garcia made first team in 2A. Almira/Coulee-Hartline’s Dalton Kentner made second team for 1B/2B.
