Wetter conditions mean that there will be fireworks in Polson this July 4, after dry conditions last year led to widespread bans. 

Last year a family in Ronan was left homeless after a young child accidentally burned down a home by setting off fireworks. 

Ronan Police Chief Ken Weaver said some complaints had been trickling in a week prior to the big day, but that overall fireworks concerns were not as great as during last year’s very dry summer. 

Although it is not as dry, people are reminded that the following fireworks ordinances apply: 

Polson: Fireworks are permitted June 24 through July 5, but fireworks cannot be set off before 8 a.m. or after 11 p.m., except on July 3 or July 4. On July 3 and July 4, fireworks are permitted from 8 a.m. until 12:30 a.m. the next day. 

Ronan: Fireworks are allowed June 24 until July 2 from 8 a.m. until the town’s curfew. The curfew is 10 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday. 

On July 3 and 4 fireworks will be permitted from 8 a.m. until 1 a.m. 

On July 5, fireworks are allowed until 10 p.m. Consequences for violating the city’s fireworks ordinance are a written first warning, an $85 fine for a second offense or a $500 fine for a third offense.
