Spuds swept on the road by the Beetles

YAKIMA — Central Washington’s road woes continued after a pair of losses in Yakima.

Shaky relief pitching was the roots of a 10-4 loss in the opener and a 10-2 loss in the nightcap.

Austin Valdez pitched 4 1/3 inning for the Spuds, giving up two runs, before Yakima pulled ahead against his relief. The Spuds led 3-2 before the Beetles broke things open.

“Some walks, some big hits with the bases loaded,” assistant coach Chase Tunstall said.

Tyson Yamane and Bailey Sanchez eached notched a RBI.

Cameron Duke went five innings for the Spuds in Game 2, allowing four runs. However, only one was earned.

Nate Ball hit a two-run double with the bases loaded for Central Washington’s only runs.

The Spuds return to the diamond July 5 for a home doubleheader against the Twin City Titans.

Walleyes complete sweep of Eastmont

EAST WENATCHEE — Moses Lake was able to take three out of four games in a two-day period against Eastmont after a sweep on the road.

In Game 1, the Walleyes broke a 4-4 tie with two runs in the fifth inning for a narrow win 6-5. The Walleyes rallied from a 2-0 deficit in Game 2 after scoring five unanswered runs for a 5-3 victory.

Tyler Pagliarulo had two RBI for Moses Lake in the opener, while Ezekyel Ochoa had three hits.

Both teams exchanged three runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth. The Walleyes were able to break the deadlock with two more in the fifth inning, taking advantage of four Eastmont errors.

Ochoa pitched five innings with three strikeouts.

Brent Mendenhall drove in two runs for Moses Lake in Game 2. The Walleyes used a four-run fourth inning to pull ahead for good.

Ochoa had three hits and Blake Pugh added two. Pugh also pitched five innings with one strikeout.
