OPINION: Doesn't editor know that Trump is not a conservative?

I get it, Mr. Miele. Donald Trump is your man. I am surprised that someone who considers himself a true conservative would not only support but fawn over a hypocrite like Trump, but that seems to be the case with repeated “2 cents” columns defending Trump against all criticism.

Though I agree with the editor’s disdain for Mitt Romney’s accusation that there is a “bombshell” in Trump’s unreleased tax records, I totally disagree that The Donald has nothing to hide. I am sure there is much in Trump’s tax reports that he would not want out, and, just like Obama’s college transcripts and writings in college and law school, we will never see.

Though I don’t have any facts to support what I am going to say, I do have some predictions should Trump become the Republican candidate for president.

Not only will the Democrats and the drive-by media point to the foreign workers who were brought in to help demolish the existing building on the site of Trump Towers in New York, but an endless array of illegal immigrant workers will be paraded before cameras and in ads, workers who make beds, wash dishes and do landscaping for Trump properties. These are the same people Trump claims he will round up and ship back to Mexico and then let some come back in (as always with no details on either process). Who will he let back in? Probably the people who now work illegally at his properties.

There will be reports and testimony of shady deals, especially on his New York holdings, deals that were done to grease the skids for his projects. The same “bribes” Trump has given to both Democrat and Republican politicians in Washington at the highest levels in the form of campaign contributions, I would guess he has also given to lower-level politicians, for example in New York, to get his buildings done.

He is the first to say he does great deals. How many “contributions” did he make to officials in other countries where bribes are a way of life? Is this the type of person we want as our president?

Trump says he is self-funding his campaign and speaks with contempt at every speech and debate about lobbyists, all the while saying that as a businessman he contributed to campaigns to get access to politicians so he could get favors done. Perhaps he should look up the definition of “lobbyist?” HE WAS AND STILL IS A LOBBYIST!

Trump says he gets along with everyone. Will he allow Putin to take over the entire Ukraine so he can remain “liked?” What about the Baltic states or perhaps Poland? If your guiding principle is that you want to be liked, which country are you willing to surrender to evil to remain in the old boys’ club ... Israel?

But most of all, my disappointment, Mr. Miele, results from your support of such an obvious fraud and hypocrite. Do we really want another empty suit in the White House? Do we really want someone who lacks any moral compass and will SAY he believes in anything — religion, pro-life, anti-illegal immigration, to name a few — to get elected even though his past ACTIONS have been the opposite? Haven’t the past seven years of an orator-in-chief been enough without nominating an entertainer-in-chief?

If you like Donald Trump, Mr. Miele, watch his TV show, don’t push him as a true conservative. He will do nothing that he is promising and, unlike George W. Bush (a man who did have a moral compass and conservative beliefs), will certainly alienate true conservatives at home and our allies around the world, while he paints “Trump One” on the side of Air Force One and spells his name in 10-foot gold letters on the roof line of the White House. This egotistical loudmouth doesn’t deserve your support.

As a usually thoughtful and measured person, I would have thought you would have been horrified by his bombast and self-interest, not to mention his lack of true conservative beliefs. Donald Trump is what one would call, “All hat and no cattle.” Shame on you for selling him as a conservative.

Inter Lake too tough on Zinke?

I am not for wasteful government spending, but does the Daily Inter Lake need to parrot the Associated Press’s repeated assaults on Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke’s air transportation spending ... and putting this garbage on the front page? After the liberal media got rid of HHS secretary Tom Price for using excessive charter flights, I’m sure they figure this is a way to get rid of most of the president’s Cabinet, not that any Democrats ever abused this privilege!

Was Obama team working to undermine Trump transition?

WOW! Can this piece-of-work we call the Congress and the drive-by media be any more pathetically one sided? Can their emphasis on character assassination and process overshadow the truth any more than they have obfuscated the truth thus far?

Creative problem-solving needed in Glacier Park

So Glacier National Park is considering a “one car in, one car out” policy at venues on dead-end roads such as Bowman Lake due to overcrowded parking causing a “safety issue.” I wonder how often emergency vehicles have had a problem getting to where they were needed at the lake. Not to mention that it seems to me a helicopter would be more useful in providing timely intervention and not be affected by overcrowded parking. My guess is that there are fewer than 50 parking spaces (excluding the campground itself) for the whole site, including people parking for multi-day backcountry hiking.
