EPHRATA — Two 19-year-old women from Quincy were injured on Feb. 22 when the car they were in was rear-ended by a pickup on Highway 28 within the Ephrata city limits.
According to the Washington State Patrol, neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the 5:30 p.m. accident. All persons involved were wearing proper safety restraints.
One of the injured women is Miriam Perez Perez, 19. She was driving a maroon 1995 Honda Accord. She was transported by ambulance to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake. Her vehicle was impounded.
Also injured, and taken to Columbia Basin Hospital in Ephrata by ambulance was Rubi J. Rodriguez. She was a passenger in the Perez vehicle.
The third party, but not injured in the crash, was Christopher J. Tommer, 38, of Ephrata. He was driving a 2014 white Ram pickup. It was impounded by Randy’s Towing.
According to the WSP, Perez and Tommer were westbound in their vehicles on 28, with Perez in the lead vehicle. The WSP reported that Perez stopped in the roadway to make a left turn.
The Tommer vehicle was unable to stop in time, according to the WSP, and rammed the Accord. The Collision caused the Ram to flip onto its right side and block the westbound lane.
The cause of the accident, the WSP said, was “following to close,” and Tommer was cited.
