The Montana Department of Transportation is taking comments on proposed safety improvements for a quarter-mile stretch of U.S. 93 in Somers.

Proposed work includes installing a rectangular rapid flashing beacon and upgrading the crosswalk pavement markings at the existing crosswalk in Somers. The beacon assembly will be similar to the one on U.S. 93 in Lakeside. The purpose of the project is to enhance roadway safety for the traveling public and pedestrians by providing enhanced warning of the pedestrian crossing.

The project is tentatively scheduled for construction in summer 2017, depending on completion of all project development activities and availability of funding.

No new right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.

For more information contact Missoula District Administrator Ed Toavs at 406-523-5802 or Project Design Engineer Gabe Priebe at 406-444-5446. Written comments may be sent to the Montana Department of Transportation Missoula office at P.O. Box 7039, Missoula, MT 59807-7039, or online at www.mdt.mt.gov/mdt/comment_form.shtml.
