Columbia Falls area students did well in the Flathead County Science Fair last week. Here are the local winners:

Biological science

Third grade grand champion: Patrick Weaver, Glacier Gateway Elementary

Fourth grade grand champion: Briceida Bellon, Glacier Gateway Elementary

Fifth grade grand champion: Siri Erickson, Glacier Gateway Elementary; Tritica Fauske, Ruder Elementary

Reserve: Gwen Jarvis, Glacier Gateway Elementary

Sixth grade grand champion: Jenna Weaver and Grace Gedlaman

Eighth grade grand champion: Kathleen Bellon

High school (combined) grand champion: Colin Norick

Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
