A 22-year-old Columbia Falls woman died Thursday morning after a collision on Montana 206 just north of Rogers Road.
Sheriff Chuck Curry identified the woman as Stevie Anne Sorensen.
Sorenson was driving a northbound Dodge Intrepid when she lost control on the road, crossed the centerline and collided with a southbound Dodge 1500 pickup truck.
Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Laramie Stefani said Sorensen was northbound at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday when her car went off the right side of the road.
The patrol says she overcorrected back onto the road and into the path of the truck.
The pickup truck struck the passenger side of Sorenson’s car. The victim was extricated from her car and was pronounced dead on arrival at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
The driver of the truck also was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
A young child strapped into a car seat in the pickup truck was uninjured.
Badrock and Columbia Falls fire departments and Three Rivers Ambulance responded to the scene.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the accident, according to a news release from Sheriff Chuck Curry, but speed and road conditions likely contributed to the collision.
The crash occurred on a morning when roads were slick from snow.
Elsewhere, roadways were blocked temporarily by accidents on U.S. 93 at Somers and Polson and Montana 35 at Yellow Bay.
