Donna Berneice Hanson, 91
Daily Inter-Lake | UPDATED 8 years, 10 months AGO
Born October 9, 1924, in Kalispell to Ora and Beulah Miller, Donna Berneice Hanson died at age 91 on March 18, 2016, in Port Townsend, Washington.
She died of late stage COPD and would want all smokers to know how thoroughly she suffered for the decision to smoke. She would like her suffering to mean something to someone else.
Donna was a woman of fierce independence, curious and searching mind, and strong convictions. She was a feminist before feminism, a planned parenthood advocate before there was Planned Parenthood, and an artist and writer. Reading, gardening, her children, grandchildren, and travel brought her pleasure. She cared for the earth’s creatures and ecosystem. This outspoken and witty woman said it like she saw it and was willing to give her opinion on anything. If she could have voted in this election, she would have been thrilled to vote for the first woman president.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ivan W. Hanson.
Donna is survived by two children, Ron Hanson of Port Townsend and Deborah Gooden, of Seattle; three grandchildren and their spouses, Javin and Shamali Gooden, Sorin Hanson and Kelly Morgan and Ionica and Savannah Hanson; sisters Opal Horstman, Lela Rinke, Jean Doty, Marilyn Wilken; and brother, Jeryl Miller.
Brothers Orville Miller and Fred Miller predeceased her.
Last but not least, her 16-year-old Yorkie, Annie Laurie, survives her.
The family thanks Caregivers of Washington and Port Townsend Hospice for their loving care of our mother.
Donations in her name can be made to Planned Parenthood and hospice.
