LAW ROUNDUP: Video chat allegedly ends in blackmail

Kalispell Police took a report from a man on 10th Avenue West who said that he had been video chatting with a woman who recorded the conversation and was now using it to blackmail him. The man was counseled.
A woman told a dispatcher that she had encountered a 23-year-old man on North Meridian Drive who threatened to throw a rock at her like he had done in the past in Browning. The suspect had allegedly returned to Browning, but the woman wanted officers to talk to him.
A man was told to call if he changed his mind about pressing charges after his girlfriend allegedly charged $500 on his credit card after the pair broke up. The man said he did not want to fight in court. He just wanted his money back.
Someone smashed out a window of a vehicle on Second Avenue West North.
A man was told by an officer that he was not allowed back at a hotel after he showed up, ate breakfast without renting a room and refused to leave when asked.
A business on U.S. 93 near Kalispell reported to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office that someone might have been able to pass a counterfeit $100 bill. An officer was dispatched to investigate.
A woman called from Lakeside for guidance after she fell victim to a convincing, but criminal caller who demanded she make a payment to the Internal Revenue Service or face jail time. The woman thought the caller sounded legitimate, so she gave him or her a Social Security number. She was referred to federal authorities to make a report.
A man returned to a shop near Columbia Falls after vacation and was told that someone had spray-painted the back of his building. It appeared the graffiti culprit might have had some sort of change of heart because he or she had painted over the art, though there was an obvious mismatch to the paint job.
A deputy told a man and woman in Lakeside that the pair needed to figure some civil way to work out a dispute over whether or not it was OK for the man to rent a hotel room for the night. The man did not say why he wanted to rent the room.
A Columbia Falls woman reported that her adult son grabbed her arm, broke a door, and smashed her phone after she cut off the power to a building on her property. The woman was in the process of getting a restraining order against the son.
A woman called from Conrad Drive to report that her wedding ring had been stolen while she was away from her home. She had a suspect in mind. A deputy held off responding immediately until the woman could make a list of other items believed to have been stolen.
A man called from Patrick Creek Road to ask for extra patrol after trees that he had cut down to build a house were stolen. The man was encouraged to take extra security precautions.
A worker on U.S. 2 East reported that a man had been caught on camera stealing a lighter. The worker wanted the man arrested. A deputy was not able to immediately make contact with the suspect, who had allegedly stolen the lighter a little while earlier.
A Columbia Falls officer found that parties involved in a fight reported on Ninth Street West had scattered by the time law enforcement arrived.
Strange vibrations reported to Whitefish Police turned out to be railroad workers performing maintenance. A caller said he or she had never heard or felt similar sounds and feelings.
An officer found that subjects had fled into the woods after someone reported that they had been involved in a fist fight and verbal altercation reported on Alpine Court.
