A new shop and two restaurants are planned in the North Kalispell commercial district.

National doughnut chain Krispy Kreme is in the construction permit process at the Kalispell Planning and Building Department with plans to build in Spring Prairie Phase Four in north Kalispell.

Separately, mattress retailer Mattress Firm and Mexican fast-food restaurant Costa Vida have submitted plans to fill a shops building approved for the corner of U.S. 93 and Old Reserve Drive south of McDonald’s.

The Krispy Kreme building permit is for a 2,700 square-foot facility valued at $700,000, according to Kalispell Planning and Building Director Tom Jentz. The doughnut store will be directly west of the shops building.

“We’re working through the building permit; construction would start after the permit is issued,” Jentz said.

If the permit is issued, Jentz said construction could begin by June 1. The permit application will return to the site development review committee in two weeks for approval.

At the western end of Spring Prairie Phase Four, developers of the 101-room Marriott Springhill Suites are hoping to be open and ready for the summer season by that same time.

Jentz said developers submitted a request to change façade materials last week. The review committee approved the permit allowing construction to continue without stalling before the upcoming tourist season.

“They are still pushing for a June 1 opening,” Jentz said. “They’re still moving ahead full-speed to be open and catch this season.”

In other building news, Jentz said the long-awaited Chick-fil-A restaurant building permit was issued last week, allowing construction to start at any time on the parcel located directly north of the Verizon store.

The Georgia-based fast-food restaurant will be the final addition to Phase Three, the northernmost portion of the Spring Prairie development.
