Second man sentenced for growing pot on forest land

A second man was sentenced on Thursday for growing marijuana on the Flathead National Forest.
Flathead District Judge Amy Eddy sentenced Skylar Wiegenstein, 25, of Great Falls to a five-year deferred sentence for felony criminal manufacture of dangerous drugs.
Wiegenstein and his cousin Smoky Alan Geldrich, 27, of Kalispell admitted earlier this year that they grew marijuana in buildings constructed on Flathead Forest land between Sept. 1 and Sept. 20, 2013.
Geldrich received an identical sentence earlier this year. As a condition of the sentence, the pair will have to take down buildings they used in the grow operation and restore the forest to its original condition.
“That’s the priority in this case,” Eddy said.
Court documents say the pair were found after a U.S. Forest Service special agent found illegal structures had been built. The pair were caught hauling 40 marijuana plants in duffel bags to the site on Sept. 20. They had left another 20 or 30 plants in the forest that were discovered by law enforcement on Sept. 6.
