The Troy tennis team traveled to Libby Saturday to face the Chiefs and Maidens of Ronan.

On the girls’ side of the nets, only one match was played as two players were away on a school field trip. In the lone girls match, Troy’s Allie Brown handily defeated Ronan’s Breanna Turpin, 6-0, 6-1.

Troy’s boys didn’t fare as well, however, and fell to the visiting Chiefs 5-0.

In singles action Fisher Shima knocked off Ben Haggerty, 6-0, 6-1; Bailey Moss beat Noah Caballero, 6-3, 6-4 and Caleb Kobel defeated Austin McCully, 6-2, 6-4. In doubles play, Ethan Blevins and Colt Roullier beat Cody Osterberg and Dylan Cummings and Andrew Kuchler and DeFrance Heybert overpowered Cy Winslow and Jaymin Stever.

Troy coach Nancy Prieve said her team is working hard and having fun.

“We only played one girls match because Kaylee Stecher and Molly Walters were on a school trip,” she said. “Allie played strong and easily defeated her opponent. We also had three varsity players gone this week. We had a couple of close matches but didn’t win any. The kids continue to work hard and have fun.”
