ROYAL CITY — It is said that handicaps level the playing field between golfers of differing capabilities, and that is proving out in the Thursday Night Men’s League at the Royal Golf Course.
Barely in its third week of existence, the league has seen different leaders at the top of the standings each week. Pete Christensen and Shawn Vetterick are leading this week. Matt Anderson led after one week. Patrick Dorsing was leading after two weeks.
The league generally has its two-man matches on Thursday evenings. But the opponents are allowed to adjust their schedule to meet their personal needs, as long as the match is played within the scheduled week.
The player point standings are based on various factors, including match outcomes, gross (actual) scores and net (minus handicap) scores.
In addition to changing leaders, the league is experiencing tight player point differentials. Christensen and Vetterick are leading with 19.00. Bob Murphy and Jeremy Russell are right behind at 18.50. Russell made the big jump of the week, going from 10.00 PP to 19.00 PP.
