SANDPOINT — A beautiful beach, a mild May day and fabulous food are on tap for the Cinco de Mayo fundraiser taking place at Trinity at City Beach on May 5.
An annual fete organized by Leadership Sandpoint, proceeds from this year's bash will benefit the Sandpoint Teen Center. Fiesta food and beverages, raffles, prizes and south-of-the-border fun will begin at 4:30 p.m. and go until closing. Organizers invite everyone to take part.
Marty Perron and Doug Bond will provide live music for the event. Raffle prizes will include a flight aboard a Quest aircraft and a cruiser bike donated by Bonner Bicycle.
The Sandpoint Teen Center opened its doors to area youth in 2004. Four days per week from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., teens drop by to snack, socialize, take classes and enjoy themselves in a safe environment. Center director Joan Avery would like to expand the hours and the activities she offers. Ideally, she would like to see the organization purchase the building it occupies as well, and teaming up with Leadership Sandpoint may help make that happen.
"Leadership Sandpoint learned that the building the Teen Center is currently renting has bee placed on the market. This facility is vital to the success of the Teen Center's future. Leadership Sandpoint is committed to doing all they can to raise the funds to donate to the Teen Center to purchase the building," said Tommy Groff, Leadership Sandpoint representative.
Those who cannot make the Cinco de Mayo event can drop off donations for the Teen Center at the Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce. The organization is also taking online donations at http://igg.me/at/nXRCqpeY8gs, said Groff.
"Leadership Sandpoint is a program designed to facilitate the development and growth of the leaders of tomorrow and provide opportunities to interact with community members," according to the Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce, the parent organization of the group.
