LAW ROUNDUP: Room at the inn, but none at the jail

Whitefish Police took a woman to a hotel after her husband called for help because she was trying to bite him as he drove her to the hospital. The man claimed she was extremely intoxicated and had a history of mental health issues. Officers dropped the woman off at a hotel after the jail staff advised that there was no space for the woman. She was counseled about her behavior.


The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office responded to Trumble Creek Road, where someone had cut a hole in a fence, stolen some stereos, and left other items strewn about.

A man and woman in Essex were separated by a deputy after the man was seen throwing the woman’s clothing into the road. The woman claimed the man would not let her leave and had busted her phone.

A 49-year-old man was taken from Martin City to the hospital in Kalispell after he allegedly accidentally shot himself with a pellet gun.

Three boats were vandalized on Newlin Drive in Marion.

A deputy tried to track down a 9-year-old boy in Martin City who allegedly was throwing condoms full of urine at other children in a public park. The boy allegedly refilled his makeshift water balloon several times and repeated the misconduct more than once. The boy was not immediately found.

A mother called the Sheriff’s Office upset after a deputy allegedly talked to her child without her being present. The deputy was investigating near Mountain Vista Way in Kalispell after someone reported that two teens were smashing in the windows to a dump truck and backhoe. The mother wanted to know if the deputy’s conversations with the child had been recorded.

A deputy advised a man about getting a no-contact order after the man said his ex-wife had sped off in a vehicle after threatening to kill him and his current wife. The man told the deputy that his ex-wife was “dressed like a hooker” when the deputy asked for a description as he searched for the woman. A deputy was not able to locate the woman. The man suspected that meth might have caused the erratic behavior.

A deputy helped a man retrieve his property from a location outside of Columbia Falls after a previous encounter with people on the property ended with someone threatening to shoot the man and his girlfriend. The person who issued the threat had a baseball bat in his hand at the time of the alleged incident.


Columbia Falls Police found that all was OK after neighbors reported hearing shouting on Martha Road.

An officer determined that people had been yelling at each other about the content of a Facebook post.

Kalispell Police booked a man into jail on a warrant from Kootenai County, Idaho, after he led officers on a foot pursuit.

A probation and parole officer had tried to take the man into custody, but he slipped out of the handcuffs and fled into downtown Kalispell before he was eventually caught.

A woman’s food stamp card was stolen from her vehicle as she shopped at a store on U.S. 93.

An animal control officer and two regular officers responded to Appleway Drive after someone claimed that a German shepherd was being hurt by someone. Investigating officers found that the owner was simply trying to bathe the dog and that nothing criminal had occurred.

A man ran away from a supermarket as personnel tried to chase him because they thought he was stealing a cart of groceries.

Officers chased the man and found out that he had paid, but he ran away because someone was chasing him.
