Leif Ericksen tossed a three-hit shutout in game two and the Kalispell Lakers AA team scored 22 times in just nine offensive innings in a one-sided doubleheader sweep of the Mission Valley Mariners A at Griffin Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Lakers (11-2) won game one 12-2 and took the finale 10-0. Both games were shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule.

Ericksen cruised through his five frames in just 64 pitches, striking out three. He also collected two of the Lakers’ nine hits in the nightcap, a game the hosts put away by scoring seven times in the first inning.

Kalispell was more balanced in the first game of the day, scoring in each of its five at bats and ending the game with one out in the fifth when Eric Seaman singled in their 12th run.

Jonas Nyman had two hits in the first game and went 3 for 5 on the day to lead the Lakers offensively.

Drew Scherrer singled home Brady Peiffer with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Kalispell Lakers a walk-off win against the Missoula Mavericks in the first game of a doubleheader sweep at Archie Roe Field.

The Lakers (3-3) won the second game 11-1 in a contest shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule.

In the opener, the Lakers and Mavericks went to the seventh and final inning tied at four before the visitors scored twice to surge in front.

Jaycob Serrano singled to lead off the Lakers rally in the seventh before the next two batters were retired. Jayron Venturini singled home Serrano for the first run of the inning and he would score later on an error to tie the score. Peiffer was hit by a pitch and, after pinch-hitter Clayton Jaques singled to move Peiffer to second, Scherrer delivered the winning hit.

The second game was all Kalispell, with the Lakers scoring the last 11 runs unanswered, beginning with a four-run second. Nathan Vanderbeek stroked a three-run triple in that inning and Sam Elliott bashed a three-run double in the fourth.

“The bats finally came alive and that was exciting to see,” Lakers coach Jesse McFarland. “The kids are getting better every day.”

Peiffer was the beneficiary of the offense, allowing just one hit and striking out eight in the five-inning compete game victory.

HAMILTON — The Red Sox kept the Twins off the scoreboard after a three-run second inning and pulled away for a nine-inning Class A win.

Colten Parker had three hits and Derek Kastella doubled twice to lead the Twins, who will rematch with the Red Sox today at 1 p.m.
