MOSES LAKE —The 10th annual Edúcate @ Big Bend Latino Education Fair will be held May 13 in the ATEC building at Big Bend Community College.

Edúcate @ Big Bend is a free family event. There will be workshops, information booths, music, and food for attendees from 4:30 to 8 p.m. The evening hours allow parents and working people to participate.

This year free transportation is available for participants from some communities in BBCC’s service district. Round trips from Quincy/Ephrata, Mattawa/Royal City, and Othello/Warden will be provided by bus. Space is limited. Call 793-2072 to reserve a seat.

Edúcate @ Big Bend includes workshops about financial aid, scholarships, how to access education without residency, and the admissions process. Information also will be provided on Running Start, BBCC professional/technical programs, and GED/ESL and Citizenship classes. Campus tours will be provided.

Representatives of Washington State University, Central Washington University, and the University of Idaho also will provide information at the fair.

BBCC is designated a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) by the federal Title V program because of demographics and income levels in its service district.

Eighty percent of BBCC students and 94 percent of Latino students are “first-generation students,” meaning their parents did not earn a college degree.
