SANDPOINT — An Oldtown man was arrested Friday for allegedly using his pickup truck to ram an all-terrain vehicle being ridden by a 12-year-old boy.

The boy was not injured, although the conduct brought about a charge of felony assault against Steven Michael Moore, the driver of the pickup.

Moore, 60, made an initial appearance in Bonner County Magistrate Court on Monday via videoconferencing with the jail. Judge Lori Meulenberg set Moore’s bail at $5,000 and appointed a public defender to represent him, court records show.

The ATV rider told a sheriff’s deputy that he was riding northbound on Meadowlark Lane in Oldtown, made a fast U-turn in an intersection and made for home. Once there, an older dark blue pickup truck came up his driveway and rammed into the back of the ATV, causing it to lurch a few feet forward.

Moore, a probable cause affidavit alleges, threatened to shoot and kill the boy and anyone else who drove fast on his road. The boy interpreted the threat as credible, the affidavit said.

A sheriff’s deputy advised Moore that the boy had positively identified him as the man behind the wheel of the pickup and Moore allegedly surrendered for arrest immediately, court documents indicate.
