RATHDRUM — A Liberty Lake man who allegedly stole a utility task vehicle at a Hayden dealership Monday was arrested later in the day after an alleged chase with police.
Sethen Simeon Dyerson, 29, was booked into the Kootenai County jail for grand theft of the UTV valued at more than $20,000.
The driver of the UTV during the alleged chase in Rathdrum remained at large on Tuesday. Rathdrum police Chief Kevin Fuhr declined to disclose his name, citing the pending investigation.
When Dyerson was arrested at the rental home at 8221 Arizona St. where the suspect told police he had been staying, a stolen U-Haul dolly was also recovered along with drug paraphernalia inside the home. Post Falls Police K-9 Andor and an officer responded to assist with the search.
"Neighbors were outside and thanked law enforcement for assisting with the problems at the house the past few months," Fuhr said.
According to Fuhr, a sergeant was patrolling on Monday and noticed a UTV without license plates cross the center line on California in the southwest part of the city. When the sergeant attempted to pull over the driver of the UTV, a vehicle pursued ensued. The sergeant lost contact with the UTV after it drove across a field.
It was later determined the UTV had been stolen from Odyssey Sports Northwest in Hayden.
Residents then reported two suspicious men covering up a UTV with a tarp behind the home on Arizona. While law enforcement was on scene, Dyerson returned to the home and was arrested.
While interviewing Dyerson, police learned about paraphernalia inside the home. With the homeowner's permission, police searched the home and recovered the drug items.
No one has been charged with possessing drug paraphernalia or stealing the dolly as no one else was at the home at the time. More charges are likely, pending the investigation.
Dyerson has been booked into the local jail 17 previous times since 2006, on charges including failure to appear, obstructing, burglary, robbery, disturbing the peace, possession of a controlled substance, invalid driver's license, probation violation, driving without privileges and providing false information to police.
