Last Thursday a truck driver tried to miss a herd of elk and wrecked his truck, which overturned and spilled 44,000 pounds of garbanzo beans along Interstate 90. The early morning accident occurred west of St. Regis, near mile marker 26.
The driver was not injured. He was cited for careless driving, according to Montana Highway Patrol officer Steve Spur.
It took approximately four hours to clear the wreck, finishing at around 9 a.m.
Crews also worked to clean up the beans, sometimes called chickpeas, in order to keep wildlife from feeding on them near the highway.
