It was an exciting week of track and field for Lake County athletes. Last Tuesday, all of the local teams came together for the Lake County meet in Polson. 

Big winners on the boys’ side were Charlo’s Michael Delaney, who took first place in the 100, 200, and ran on the winning long relay team. His teammate, Dugan Runkle, won the shot put and discus, and Landers Smith took gold in the javelin. Ronan’s Jackson Duffey had wins in the one and two mile races and Steven Flesch won the triple jump. Polson’s Jacob Clairmont took home gold in the pole vault, 110 hurdles, and the long jump. Teammate Quin Stewart won the 800, and Colton Cote won the 300 hurdles. Arlee’s Isaac Desjarlais won the 400 and teammate Aaron Perry won the high jump.

The Polson girls won as a team and were led by wins from Bea Frissell in the 800, Molly Sitter in the two mile, Lydia Bowman in the pole vault, Mikaela Ducharme in the triple jump, Julia Sanderson in the shot put, Mariah Corrigan in the javelin, and a win by the short relay team. Arlee had wins by Ashley Revis, who took the 100 and 200, Carly Hergett, who won the 100 hurdles and the long jump, and Natalie Yocum, who won the mile. Charlo’s wins came from Allie Delaney, who won the 400, and Cheyenne Nagy, who won the 300 hurdles. In an exciting 1600-meter relay race, the Charlo girls edged out the Polson girls to win. St. Ignatius got a win by freshman Afton Brander in the high jump, whose jump of 5’0 qualified her for the state tournament. Ronan did not have any individual winners, but Ashley McCready finished second in the two-mile and third in the mile. Lee Camel also added points in the long jump, triple jump, and shot put.

On Saturday, Polson traveled to Kalispell and the Class B and C teams traveled to Missoula. For the B and C teams, their postseason starts this week. Two Eagle, Charlo, and Arlee will compete at the district meet in Polson on Thursday. Ronan and Mission will be in Missoula for districts on Saturday. Polson hosts their last regular season meet on Saturday.
