Glacier National Park on Thursday announced Bioblitz, a summer-long centennial event that invites citizen scientists to document wildlife sightings within the park on a free iNaturalist phone app.
Glacier is one of over 100 national parks hosting the Bioblitz project during the National Park Service’s 100-year anniversary.
The park’s Bioblitz runs from May 1 through Sept. 30, and observation data recorded May 21-22 will be featured on a Jumbotron at the Biodiversity Festival in Washington, D.C.
According to a press release from the park, past Bioblitz events have documented more than 8,400 flora and fauna in the park system, including previously undiscovered species.
Participation is free and citizen scientists can register and download the app at www.inaturalist.org.
