Softball: Troy rallies in 7th to nip Eureka, 10-8

EUREKA — Kaitlyn Downey doubled twice and drove in three runs to help Troy knock off Eureka 10-8 in a Western B-C divisional softball play-in game on Monday evening.

Downey also went the distance in the circle to pick up the win. She checked Eureka on six hits, walked two batters and struck out one.

Troy scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull it out.

Eureka, which scored six runs in the bottom half of the second, scored once in the fourth to tie it at 7-all and added another run in the fifth inning to go in front 8-7.

Ambryn Smith, 2 for 4, drove in a run for the Lions.

Bailey Bishop, who doubled, also had one RBI along with Sarah Hepner for Eureka.

Makennah Apeland had Eureka’s other double.

Laura Williams went the distance in the circle for Eureka. She gave up 10 hits, but fanned eight batters and only walked two.

At Missoula on Monday, Loyola blasted Drummond 15-0 in a play-in game called after three innings.

Troy and Loyola advance to the Western B-C divisional in Anaconda, which begins Friday.

Libby hosts Thompson Falls in a play-in game today at 5 p.m. while Deer Lodge plays at Florence at 4:30 p.m. in another one. Those two winners also move on to Anaconda for divisional action this weekend.

The top four teams from the Western and Eastern divisionals advance to state, which will be held in Kalispell May 26-28.
