Cyclists flock to Libby for STOKR

More than 400 cyclists flocked to Libby during the past weekend to participate in the Scenic Tour of the Kootenai River. The ride, known as STOKR, is the sole fundraising event for the Kootenai Partners Habitat for Humanity and provides all of the funds used by the group to build one home every two years for a less-fortunate family in the Libby area.
Event organizer Susie Rice said the event included between 350 and 400 volunteers, and had a total of 406 registered cyclists run one of the two courses. One group rode a 37-mile course from Libby to Troy and up Iron Creek back to the Libby, the other course was a 98-mile trek from Libby to Troy and up through the Yaak, returning to Libby down Pipe Creek Road. The event wrapped up with a scenic ride Sunday up Highway 37 to Libby Dam.
“As an avid bicyclist, I love to share Lincoln County with other cyclists,” Rice said. “But more importantly, I am passionate about Habitat for Humanity. This is the one fundraiser each year that Kootenai Valley Partners Habitat for Humanity does. This fundraiser alone provides us with the capital to build a new home with a family every other year, so for me, STOKR is fantastic. I get to interact with delightful cyclists from around the region and involve volunteers within our community to pull off a successful benefit for Habitat for Humanity.”
