COEUR d'ALENE — A Coeur d'Alene woman told police that a male threatened her with a handgun while she was in her truck in downtown Coeur d'Alene on Friday night.

Kristy Lopez wrote online and described to police that the suspect was a white male who was wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, about 6 foot and thin. We was described to be in his late 20s and with a blonde goatee.

"Shortly after getting inside and locking the doors, a male tried to open the driver's door," a Coeur d'Alene Police press release states. "When the male couldn't open the door, he tapped on the driver's side window with a handgun and demanded the victim open the door.

"The victim didn't open the door and was able to drive away before contacting police."

The suspect fled the scene prior to the officer's arrival.

Police responded to the area of Sixth Street and Front Avenue around 11:15 p.m. for the report.

The woman told officers she had been downtown with friends for the evening.

The suspect was in a dark-colored 1990s-era passenger car, possibly a Honda Civic, that had stopped behind the Lopez's truck.

"I have made it a habit to lock my doors when I get in a vehicle and that possibly saved my life … ," Lopez wrote. "Since it was locked he tapped my window with a gun pointed at me and yelled to get out of my truck. I yelled back and told him no and to leave me alone. I panicked and threw my truck in reverse and gunned it down the road and called 911."

Lopez told police she does not know the suspect.

"As Lopez was backing out of the parking stall, the male hit her driver's side mirror," the police report states.

Those with information are urged to call Coeur d'Alene Police at 769-2320.
