Two-time defending champion Emily Getts of Columbia Falls had no problems in the first two rounds, cruising into the semifinals of the Northwestern A divisional tennis tournament on Thursday in Kalispell.

Getts blasted Ashley Eyre of Stevensville, 6-0, 6-0 in round one and swept Polson’s Tessa Nunlist, 6-1, 6-2 to reach the semis. She will face Polson’s Mollie Lemm next. Whitefish’s Lilli Szundy and Polson’s Marlee Congdon also advanced to the semis.

On the boys side, Whitefish’s top-seeded Max Smyley blanked Polson’s John Moore, 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals after a first round bye. He will meet teammate Nathan Fauth next.

Whitefish’s Eric Holdhusen and Colton Belcourt of Stevensville are the other semifinalists.

Two doubles teams from Polson and two others from Whitefish reached the girls semifinals. Boys doubles semifinalists include teams from Polson, Columbia Falls and Whitefish.

Action resumes today at 9 a.m. at either Flathead Valley Community College or The Summit, depending on weather conditions.
