HELENA — The Flathead boys were a few points short of a team victory at the Western AA divisional track and field championships on Saturday, finishing in second place. The Glacier girls also finished in second place.

Braves senior Jake Perrin finished a sweep in the distance races, winning the 1,600-meter run in 4 minutes, 17.18 seconds to add to his 3,200 win from Friday. Flathead finished the meet with 111 points, seven behind host Helena High, the divisional champions.

Braves senior Josh McCracken won the discus by nearly 10 feet with a throw of 157 feet. He also placed second in the shot put.

Glacier’s Aaron Robinson swept the hurdles, crossing the line nearly a second faster than his closest competitor in each race.

The Glacier boys finished in the third place.

Glacier sophomore Annie Hill completed a sweep of the girls distances, winning the 1,600 in 5:03.34.

Wolfpack junior Nikki Krueger won the discus with a throw of 123-1.

The Glacier girls, leaders after the first day in the team race, finished a distant second to Missoula Sentinel.

Flathead’s girls placed in sixth.

Western A divisional

FRENCHTOWN — Corvallis swept the team titles at the Western A divisional meet, though just barely.

The Blue Devils beat the Columbia Falls boys by one point in the team race to secure the sweep, after winning the girls title by a mile.

Columbia Falls’ Sage Wanner finished a sweep of the distance races with an easy win in the 3,200, crossing the line in 9:54.91, and ran the third leg for the Wildcats on their winning 1,600 relay team.

Polson’s Jacob Clairmont won the 300 hurdles by a second over teammate Colton Cote. The Pirates were fourth in the team race.

Whitefish’s Luke May took the javelin with a toss of 188-7, topping a pair of Columbia Falls hurlers in second and third. The Bulldogs finished fifth.

Corvallis won five of the nine girls events on Saturday, Hamilton winning three of the other four as the two teams finished 1-2.

Whitefish closed in third place, Columbia Falls fourth and Polson fifth.

Western B Divisional

MISSOULA — The Bigfork girls rallied past Libby on the final day of competition to win the Western B divisional track championship.

Mattison McAnally won the 300 hurdles and placed second in the 100 hurdles and the Valkyries won the 1,600 relay. Miranda Campbell won the discus with a toss of 108-10 1/2.

The barrage of points helped the Vals pass Libby in the standings and take the divisional meet by 20 points.

Libby’s Lauren Thorstenson won the 1,600 as the Loggers finished second.

The Eureka boys were a distant second to Thompson Falls, Cannan Smith winning the javelin and finishing second in both hurdles races. Lucas Blankers won the triple jump for the Lions.

Bigfork’s Logan Morley set a new divisional meet record in the 3,200, finishing in 9:22.12, more than six second faster than the record set by Plains’ Casey Jermyn in 2000.

Troy’s Sean Opland won the 200 and finished second in the 100 and high jump, scoring 32 of the Trojans’ 36 points. Troy finished eighth as a team.
