Filing period ends in Grant and Adams counties

With the filing period for August’s primary and November’s general elections ending Friday, local races in Grant and Adams Counties are all but set.
The primary is scheduled for Aug. 2, while the general election is set for Nov. 8. Some of the high profile races include the one in the Fourth Congressional District, as Clint Didier, R-Eltopia, has been joined by John (the man) Malan, D-Pasco, Doug McKinley, D-Richland, and Glenn Jakeman, R-Yakima, to defeat incumbent Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Yakima. In the 9th Legislative District, Rep. Mary Dye, R-Pomeroy, who was appointed to the position after the resignation of Susan Fagan in April 2015, will be competing against Jennifer Goulet, D-Pasco, and Hailey Roemer, R-Pullman, to retain her seat.
In Grant County voters will have the opportunity to elect a new person as Grant County commissioner for District No. 2, as Commissioner Carolann Swartz recently announced she would not be running for a third term. People who have filed for the position include Brian McGowan, R-Moses Lake, Tom Taylor, R-Moses Lake, Nathan Pack, R-Moses Lake, James “Jim” Liebrecht, R-Moses Lake, and Casey Cooper, R-Moses Lake.
Commissioner Richard Stevens, R-Soap Lake, will be competing against Robert J. Dove, R-Coulee City, Myriam Villagran Diaz, D-Soap Lake, and Brian Fiess, I-Ephrata, to retain his seat as Grant County Commissioner District No. 1.
Candidates who have filed for local offices include:
- 4th Congressional District, representative: Dan Newhouse, R-Yakima, Clint Didier, R-Eltopia, John (the man) Malan, D-Pasco, Doug McKinley, D-Richland, and Glenn Jakeman, R-Yakima.
- 9th Legislative District, senator: Mark G. Schoesler, R-Ritzville.
- 9th Legislative District, representative No. 1: Mary Dye, R-Pomeroy, Jennifer Goulet, D-Pasco, and Hailey Roemer, R-Pullman.
- 9th Legislative District, representative No. 2: Joe Schmick, R-Colfax.
- 12th Legislative District, senator: Brad Hawkins, R-East Wenatchee, and Jon Wyss, R-Brewster.
- 12th Legislative District, representative No. 1: Cary Condotta, R-Wenatchee, and Dan Maher, D-Wenatchee.
- 12th Legislative District, representative No. 2: Mike Steele, R-Chelan, Danny Stone, R-Grand Coulee, Garn G. Christensen, R-Wenatchee, and Jerry Paine, R-East Wenatchee.
- 13th Legislative District, representative No. 1: Tom Dent, R-Moses Lake.
- 13th Legislative District, representative No. 2: Matt Manweller, R-Ellensburg, and Jordan Webb, D-Moses Lake.
- Adams County commissioner, district No. 1: John N. Marshall, R-Ritzville.
- Adams County commissioner, district No. 2: Roger L. Hartwig, R-Othello, and Kenneth Johnson, R-Othello.
- Adams County sheriff: Dale Wagner, R-Othello.
- Adams County Superior Court, Position No. 1: Steve Dixon.
- Grant County commissioner, District No. 1: Richard Stevens, R-Soap Lake, Robert J. Dove, R-Coulee City, Myriam Villagran Diaz, D-Soap Lake, and Brian Fiess, I-Ephrata.
- Grant County commissioner, District No. 2: Brian P. McGowan, R-Moses Lake, Tom Taylor, R-Moses Lake, Nathan Pack, R-Moses Lake, James “Jim” Liebrecht, R-Moses Lake and Casey Cooper, R-Moses Lake.
- Grant County PUD commissioner, District 2: Dale Walker.
- Grant County PUD commissioner, District A: Tom Flint.
