LETTER: Holmquist's record not as good as she suggests

I’m writing this letter in an attempt to present a different point of view about the current county commissioner election.

In the May 15 Inter Lake, Commissioner Holmquist says the county budget is in great shape. I have not seen any drop in my taxes as she claims. Two wonderful building projects are nearing completions with that program of federal money. Whoopee … either federal taxes or a bigger printing press. Either way, the citizens bear the cost. And by the way if one of those projects is a bookend building for an existing building, why spend an additional million plus on architectural design?

She takes credit for the solution of the situation in Whitefish. Apparently, I was mistaken when I thought the court system did that. Maybe, with some leadership, that drain on the coffers would not have existed. Furthermore, we have been paying for a planning and zoning office for 30-plus years and areas of the county remain unzoned and other properties have regulations required by law to abide by. Is that not discriminatory? Again, planning and leadership seem to be lacking.

Next, Ms. Holmquist seems to be pleased with herself and her crew for taking a four-day field trip to Colorado to learn how to “plan a jail.” What portion of the “40-50 million” will go to planning and who will receive it?

Next, she touts the zoning overlay for Evergreen. An ethical public servant would have abstained from voting on this because of conflicting business and “homeowner” issues.

Another issue I find interesting is the contract for the removal of the structures on the former Kalispell Feed and Grain property that cost the taxpayers an extra $10,000 or so. Maybe there are some unpublished agenda items that need to be looked at there.

As far as Ms. Holmquist’s residence goes, I find it interesting she claims to have resided for “11 years” in Evergreen, but before that she claimed residence elsewhere to run in a different district race and was defeated.

I submit to the voting taxpayers and residents of Flathead County that we all need to question the ethics of our elected officials and hold them accountable for their words and actions.

In the aforementioned Inter Lake interview, Ms. Holmquist states she has been “followed home a few times.” Can I ask which home?

Could it be said that the most paranoid people are the ones with the most to hide? Pam Holmquist seems to call procrastination a leadership trait. She does not deserve reelection.
