The streak is over. Columbia Falls senior Emily Getts was defeated by Mollie Lemm of Polson 7-6 (6), 6-3 in the semifinals of the Northwest A divisional tournament last Friday at Flathead Valley Community College.
Getts had not lost a match all season long. She battled back to take third and earn a berth to the state tournament this weekend in Bozeman by dropping Lili Szundy of Whitefish, 6-3, 6-2.
Teammate Molly Schmit had a nice tournament, but fell just short of a state berth, beating Paige Sproul of Whitefish 6-2, 6-4 in the consolation round, but Getts knocked Schmit out of contention, 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles, Sydney Grilley and Morgan Stenger beat Shelby Spokas and Jackie Westman of Stevensville, 6-1, 6-3 in the consolation round, but were knocked out of a state berth chance by Olivia Hewston and Kyler Lundeen of Polson, 6-3, 6-3..
As a team, the girls were third. The boys capped off a tough year with no state qualifiers. Brendan Bulls and Austin Reese of Whitefish knocked out Brock Denney and Trevor Wick in the doubles consolation round, 6-1, 7-5.
