SANDPOINT — Local veterans organizations are coming together Monday to observe Memorial Day and place flags on the graves of those who served their country. The ceremony will commence at 10 a.m. in Pinecrest Memorial Park, 499 Pinecrest Loop.

The members of Sandpoint VFW invite the public to join them at the event, which will commence with an invocation by Pastor Stan Norman of Sandpoint Methodist Church. Boy Scout Troop 308 will be on hand to present the colors for the Pledge of Allegiance, and Dan Young will deliver the keynote speech.

Directly thereafter, representatives from local veterans groups will place flags. Those participating include: VFW Post 2453 and Auxiliary; American Legion William D. Martin Post 15 and Auxiliary; Disabled American Veterans Audie Murphy Post 15; Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 890; Marine Corps League, William E. Barber Detachment 1110; Daughters of the American Revolution, Wild Horse Trail Chapter; and Odd Fellows Lodge.

Pastor Norman will provide a benediction, and an honor guard under the command of Everett Wood will close the ceremony with a rifle salute and Taps.

The Boy Scouts will serve participating veterans and their families a luncheon following at the VFW Hall at Division Avenue and Pine Street.
