DESERT AIRE — First-year golfer Daniella Mendoza of Wahluke High School, who has grown as a player all season, qualified for the SCAC District Golf Tournament by making the cut the sub-district tournament last week.

Also making the cut were Lauren Pratt, Nelson Ramirez and Tyler Dorsing of Royal High School. The district tournament was played at Desert Aire yesterday, too late for Sun Tribune press time.

Mendoza, who started the practice season in the 140s and had a best competitive score of 108, posted 118 at sub-district to take 13th. Her first birdie ever was the likely difference between her and missing the cut.

Coach Tiffany Hedman liked Mendoza’s chances going into district yesterday. Her best score of the season, 108, was posted at Desert Aire.

Royal’s Pratt finished one place ahead of Mendoza with 115. Nelson Ramirez finished 10th among the boys with 99, while Dorsing posted 101 for 18th place among the boys.

Twenty-two boys made it to districts, while 16 girls qualified. The Top boy was Nick Baker of Cle Elum with 72. Bailey Wagner of LaSalle and Lucy Mitchum of Highland led the girls with 79.
