SANDPOINT — A Sandpoint man was arrested Friday for allegedly threatening another man with a knife outside a downtown bar,
Cody Benjamin Madden is charged with aggravated assault. He made an initial appearance in Bonner County Magistrate Court on Monday, where his bail was set at $3,000 and a public defender was appointed to represent him.
Sandpoint Police were summoned to the alley behind the A&P tavern after receiving a report of a fight. Officers arrived to find Madden, 34, holding a knife.
Madden heeded officers’ commands and was apprehended without incident, according to a police report in the case. Madden was allegedly ejected from the bar for being disruptive and a passerby with another group offered to buy him a beer at another establishment.
Madden, the police report said, became agitated en route to another bar, produced a knife and brandished it in a threatening manner. The passerby, who normally carries a sidearm openly, said the gesture would have prompted him to draw the weapon had he been armed, the police report said.
A preliminary hearing in the case is pending.
