A man was taken to jail early Friday morning after he allegedly shot at a Daily Inter Lake delivery driver working his morning route in Evergreen.

Michael John Ince, 33, was charged with felony assault with a weapon and criminal possession of dangerous drugs. His bail had not been set as of Friday afternoon.

Jail staff reported that it could take up to 72 hours for Ince to have an initial appearance in court before a judge.

Ince is also being held for criminal contempt in an unrelated matter.

Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry said deputies were still investigating the incident Friday afternoon.

The newspaper carrier, Jasen Remus, called 911 at 4 a.m., saying that he had been shot at while delivering papers near the intersection of Anderson Lane and Conrad Drive.

Deputies found two men in the suspect vehicle, one of whom allegedly admitted firing a shot.

“He claims he didn’t fire at the driver, that he just fired a shot to get him to slow down because he was driving recklessly,” Curry said, noting that shooting in an incident such as this still is against the law.

Another person in the vehicle with Ince allegedly was wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Glendive and is currently on probation for burglary and criminal possession of dangerous drugs, but he was not taken into custody.
