The Daily Inter Lake | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 8 years, 10 months AGO
MISSOULA — More state records fell on the final day of a historic weekend at the Class AA state track and field championships on Saturday at Missoula County Stadium.
Flathead senior Jake Perrin was the star again, winning the 3,200-meter run in a blazing fast time of 9 minutes, 4.35 seconds to set an all-class state record, topping the mark set by Hellgate’s Adam Peterman. Perrin set the all-class record in the 1,600 on Friday.
The time is also the fastest ever recorded in the state of Montana. There are only three times by Montanans run faster, all set at the Arcadia Invitational in California.
Billings Senior’s Christina Aragon broke her third all-class record of the weekend, winning the 1,600 for the fourth time in her career in 4:43.51. The time beat the mark she set last year in Kalispell by nearly three seconds. It’s also the third-fastest time in the country this season. The Broncs senior, heading to Stanford in the fall, set all-class records in the 800 and 3,200 on Friday.
The Glacier girls finished second as a team, 18 points back of Billings West, which won both the boys and girls team titles.
Glacier junior Nikki Krueger won the discus with a throw of 128 feet, 9 inches, with teammates Courtney Mitchell (fifth, 113-8) and Melenaie Gassaway (sixth, 113-0) also placing in the event.
Wolfpack sophomore Annie Hill finished second in the 1,600 in 4:52.13 and junior Abi Fiske was second in the triple jump with a leap of 36-2. The Glacier girls 1,600 relay team finished fourth in 4:01.87.
Flathead sophomore Kaitlin Wride finished fourth in the 1,600 in 4:58.66 as the Bravettes finished 14th as a team.
The Glacier boys finished fifth overall, helped by their sprints. Wolfpack sophomore Drew Turner finished fourth in the 100 (11.39) and second in the 200 (22.13), losing the latter in a photo finish by one hundredth of a second.
Glacier senior Aaron Robinson won the 300 hurdles (38.44), placed second in the 110 hurdles (14.54) and finished fifth in the 200 in 22.73. Sophomore Ethan Larson was sixth in the 100, junior Scout Willcut was sixth in the 200 and sophomore Hunter Nicholson was sixth in the triple jump.
