A 40-year-old man was arrested and charged with robbery after allegedly shoplifting then driving over an employee.

At approximately 2:41 p.m. on Sunday, the Kalispell Police Department responded to a shoplifting complaint at a U.S. 93 South business where the suspect, Martin Gregory Baker, had reportedly driven over a store employee while attempting to flee the scene.

Witnesses told police Baker had set off the store alarm while attempting to steal a portable drill and charger. Store employees then reportedly followed Baker out of the store to apprehend him.

Baker allegedly got into a 2006 Dodge Magnum and backed up quickly, striking a female employee who was trying to get the vehicle’s license plate information. The vehicle reportedly drove over the victim’s legs with a rear tire. The victim was positioned under the vehicle while other employees extricated Baker from the vehicle, detaining him until police arrived. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

Video surveillance of the incident was provided to police.

In addition to the robbery charge against Baker, other charges may be pending related to causing the employee’s injuries.
