MOSES LAKE — A Moses Lake man was sentenced for threatening a man and woman who witnessed him allegedly assault his fiancé.

Sherrad Lahd, 32, of Moses Lake, pleaded guilty to harassment in Grant County Superior Court. Grant County Superior Court Judge John Knodell followed a joint recommendation between Chief Deputy Prosecutor Alan White and defense attorney Susan Oglebay and sentenced Lahd to 364 days in jail, with 354 days suspended for two years. Lahd was initially charged with two counts of harassment and one count of fourth-degree assault, but one of the harassment charges and the assault charge were dropped in a plea agreement between White and Oglebay.

On July 18, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an assault in progress in the area of Valley Road Northeast and Wildgoose Lane Northeast in Moses Lake. The reporting party said they witnessed an assault with children involved, according to police records.

Police arrived at the scene and contacted the victim in the reported assault in the 7700 block of Rainier Road Northeast. The female victim claimed she was arguing with Lahd, whom she said she was in a relationship with, but she did not state if she had been assaulted or not. A deputy noticed the woman had a bruised lump on her forehead and a black right eye. The victim stated Lahd assaulted her the previous night at their residence. She said they were arguing because she didn’t want to go and buy Lahd beer.

“She would not expand as to how he assaulted her but the marks were plainly evident,” wrote a deputy. “She had mentioned that it may have been with an item other than his hand.”

The witnesses of the assault earlier in the day stated they watched Lahd assault the woman in front of her three children. The two witnesses stated after the assault Lahd came over to them and threatened to kill them.

“Lahd was yelling that he was going to kill them while standing in front of their vehicle, refusing to get out of the way, and preventing them from leaving. (The witnesses) both requested to pursue charges against Lahd for threatening to kill both of them.”

Lahd was arrested and booked in the Grant County Jail. After he was arrested deputies learned Lahd had contacted MACC Dispatch the day before requesting a call from an officer in reference to his girlfriend being out of their house and “not at home,” according to police records.
