ANACONDA — The Bigfork girls pulled off a pair of five-set upsets to advance to the undefeated semifinal at the Western B divisional volleyball tournament on Thursday.

The Valkyries, who entered the tournament as the third seed from District 7B, defeated host Anaconda 25-15, 14-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-12 in the first round, then beat 7B champion Libby 23-25, 25-19, 11-25, 25-21, 16-14 in the second round to move to the semifinals.

The wins guarantee at least a third place finish for the Vals, who will play 6B champion Florence for a spot in the finals and a berth in the state tournament at 6 p.m. today.

Libby and Eureka each won first round matches before falling to loser-out play with narrow losses in the second round.

Libby beat Deer Lodge in three sets, 25-11, 26-24, 25-22 before falling to Bigfork. Eureka beat Ronan 21-25, 25-21, 25-28, 25-18, 15-10 in the first round and fell to Florence in five sets in the second round 25-19, 23-25, 25-19, 20-25, 15-8.
