Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 8 years, 2 months AGO
Art Spirit Gallery’s upcoming exhibition will be a celebration of the gallery’s owner and curator Steve Gibbs.
Gibbs has been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease and sales of works from the show will go into a trust created to assist Gibbs with mounting medical expenses.
The show will run from Nov. 11-26 and feature a 20-plus year accumulation of original artwork from Gibbs’ personal collection, donations by gallery artists and donations by client friends. The show includes highly collectible works by Beth Cavener, George Carlson, Del Gish, Chris Antemann, Robert Grimes, Peter Cox, Don Ealy, Mel McCuddin, Harold Balazs, and many more.
More than 100 select pieces will be on display and available.
An opening reception will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11 during ArtWalk. Gibbs and many of the artists will be on hand to greet gallery visitors. The reception is free and open to all.
Gibbs began a nearly 40-year career in the arts after graduating in 1977 from Montana State University with a degree in art.
In 1997, he started The Art Spirit Gallery in a small house down the street from its current location in downtown Coeur d’Alene. Six years later, Gibbs bought the downtown building that is now home to the gallery. Gibbs’ community efforts in the arts are extensive. He initiated the Coeur d’Alene Arts & Culture Alliance, the second Friday ArtWalk, Kids Draw Architecture, and has actively served on the boards of Idaho Commission on the Arts, the arts and culture alliance, the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Association, Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Coeur d’Alene Arts Commission’s public art selection committees.
