Two Spokane women face drug-related charges after being stopped in the 100 block of East Commerce Way in Libby by Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies on Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Edie May Hansen, 61, is charged with possession with intent to distribute along with possession of dangerous drugs, both felonies, and possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a revoked license, both misdemeanors.

She faces up to 25 1/2 years in prison and a fine of up to $101,000 if convicted of all charges.

Doris Neva Hays, 43, is charged with possession of dangerous drugs, a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing a peace officer, both misdemeanors. She faces up to six years in prison and a fine of up to $51,000.

According to court documents, sheriff’s deputy Brad Dodson stopped a blue Chevrolet pickup and arrested the driver, Hansen, on a felony warrant out of Idaho for failure to appear on a possession of methamphetamine charge.

Dodson stated in the affidavit that Hansen was holding a baggy with a white crystal-like substance. It later tested “presumptively positive” for meth, he said.

During a search of Hansen’s purse, Dodson said he found multiple baggies of the same white crystal-like substance.

The vehicle’s passenger, Hays, said that Hansen was in Libby to sell meth, Dodson said.

Hays, who according to the report owns the pickup, and Detective Nate Scofield got into a heated argument outside a bowling alley, Dodson said. Hays was upset about not being able to get items out of her truck and then tried to rush by Scofield and was arrested for obstructing a peace officer, Dodson said.

After a search warrant was obtained, officers found a bag that contained Hays’ wallet and identification along with two baggies of a white crystal-like substance that later tested “presumptively positive” for meth, the report said. Also in the bag was a glass pipe consistent with those that are used to smoke meth, Dodson said.

Justice Court Judge Jay Sheffield set Hansen’s bond at $75,000 and Hays’ bond at $20,000.

In district court on Monday, Hansen waived her right to fight extradition to Bonner County, Idaho.
